Skytalks is a ‘sub-conference’ within DEF CON started in 2008. Their mission: to provide a platform for researchers to share their research, for angry hackers to rant about the issues of their industry, and for curious souls to probe interesting issues, all without the watchful eye of the rest of the world. They have a strict, well-enforced creed: “No recording.  No photographs.  No bullshit.”

Each year, DEF CON offers a theme that presents fonts, colors, books, music, and other media for presenters and creatives to use in shaping their talks and visuals. The process usually ends up with me receiving a photo, given creative freedom to visually tap into the zeitgeist.
